Everyone wants to know How To Be Happy . It's a question that crosses even the most fortunate of us. And although some struggle to find a solution, some advice from an ancestor just might be the answer? Abraham Lincoln stated that most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be. That's right, if we want to be happy, all we have to do is control our minds.

Mind control isn't something out of the extraordinary; in fact, all you have to do is guarantee that you are in control of your mind and nobody else is and you will find Happiness . Sounds easy doesn't it? Not so much.

In today's society many factors take control of your mind, from television, movies, and magazines to advertisements and the appeal of keeping up with the Joneses. These images set forth by others take over our mind and start to create new values. The problem with these values is that when we don't meet an image of one, we decide we aren't happy. It doesn't matter if we like our house, if we like the car we drive, if we are very smart and achieving honors - if our society shows that a bigger house is better, a more expensive car is superior, and being on the honors is geeky, than we believe it and our happiness is deflated.

And who do we start to blame when this happens - the media. But the media isn't the problem, they don't tell you to step outside your standards and believe that they are better. You make the final decision that those are the standards you want to achieve. Just like the infamous Joneses that we are trying to keep up with are also hypnotized by false notions of how to be happy.

That being said, we can in fact create happiness. Helen Keller said that "Happiness cannot come from without. It must come from within. It is not what we see and touch or that which others do for us which makes us happy; it is that which we think and feel and do, first for the other fellow and then for ourselves."

This means that you need to step outside of those values that are being implanted into your mind, stand up for yourself, and start to help others achieve happiness themselves. When you are feeling down, it is best to put aside your sorrows and help others. Seeing the value you have added to another's life and your own, will allow your mind to feel an appreciation for the improved circumstances, and you will start to feel a state of happiness.

The question of how to be happy in such a materialistic society is easy. Sure, buying new things can make you happy, if you appreciate them and are grateful. But even better, are the simple joys that life has to offer. Like a walk in a new neighborhood, playing soccer with a child, petting an animal or just sitting back and taking a moment for yourself that is filled with nothing but peace and quiet. At the end of the day though, the simple solution of mind control that includes gratitude, will lead to happiness.

As long as we take control of our own happiness and brush aside all materialistic values that hypnotize us within our society, we can then start to feel grateful and appreciate those things around us. We just need to simply Life Coach Author
