PopUps Pal or Foe?


You’ve made a decision that you might want to learn about something, so you do a Yahoo and google search. You select one of the websites chosen for you by Google and click on its link. Then you receive an unfortunate surprise if the page loads. Instead of seeing the page that is purported to have the content you need, you are forced to deal with a pop up. This is an ad that refuses to be closed no matter how hard you try--until you type in your e-mail address into it. Finally you just close your browser altogether because you are so frustrated. The web page manager has won!

So many people detest pop ups—and with justification. They are seriously annoying. They intrude on your internet use. If they play audio they might get you in trouble with your workplace (or anybody else in the room). They promise crazy things. They demand your personal information if you'd like them to go away. Some of them even deploy malware and cookies into your computer. There are very few people who really enjoy being confronted by these annoying things and yet, so many Internet Marketers use them. Why is this?

The depressing truth of the matter is that IMers keep using pop up banner ads because they actually work. They command interest. They allow them to create e-mail promoting lists. It has been verified many times that you will not necessarily get as good a result with a voluntary opt-in box on your sidebar or even into the principal content of your site as you do with a pop up. They have also been known to help generate sales. Sadly, these kinds of annoying bothersome web pests get the job done and, until an individual can come up with something better, most Internet Marketers are going to keep using them. Of course, that doesn’t mean that most Entrepreneurs should continue to use them. What is the actual value of an e-mail address that you have only obtained through force? Usually what the results are is the person just opts back out of your list as soon as they get the first e-mail from you or your company. Can your traffic be of high quality when most of it clicks out of your internet site because they are offended by the pop ups assaulting them? Sure you want to generate income, but is this really the best way? Can’t there be an additional alternative available to people who want to create e-mail lists and sell products?

The real truth is just this: if you have a good product or service, you aren't going to need a pop up if you can present that product well. Concentrate on building a very high quality product so that you don't have to depend on irritating pop up ads to do the job for you. Write a terrific sales or splash page. Catch the reader’s interest and then refuse to give it back with the energy of your content and copy. Here's the truth: Internet Marketers only find success and money on the web if the product that has been created is actually valuable. No pop-up ad can actually substitute the actual benefit of your product.
